The Lehigh Valley Recycling Center (LVR) is a DEP permitted
transfer and processing establishment located in North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County,
Pennsylvania. It was first issued a permit and began operating in 1988. It is
the largest municipal and residual waste transfer and processing facility
permitted by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. It is
licensed to receive up to 4,200 tons of municipal and residual waste per day.
The permit has been renewed regularly. Collection vehicles deliver and deposit their loads on
a tipping floor. The waste is processed in a number of ways. A loading tunnel
exists where specialty waste and sludges are dumped directly into waiting
open-top transfer trailers below. Waste is also baled or loaded directly into
open top trailers by experienced operators. A certified scale master operates
the electronic scale, and a maintenance facility is located on-site.
LVR is supervised by both a General Manager and an Operations Manager.
In addition, a Compliance Specialist oversees compliance with permit
conditions.
Numerous recyclables are also processed at the facility and
transported to end users. Hours of operation are 4 am - 6 pm, Monday thru
Friday and 4:00am to noon on Saturday, with processing to be complete by 9:00pm
on weekdays, 3:00pm on Saturday.
