On Wednesday, September 4, 2019, by a unanimous vote, the Quakertown Borough Council awarded its comprehensive residential trash collection and recycling contract to local waste service company J. P. Mascaro & Sons.
The three year contract, with two option years, is valued at $3 million to $5 million. Mascaro will provide Borough residents with once a week curbside or alley collection of household waste and recyclables. The contract will also include yard waste and bulk waste collection.
Speaking to the contract, Mascaro company Director of Sales, Sam Augustine, said, "We are happy to add the Borough of Quakertown to the growing list of Pennsylvania municipalities for which our company provides waste collection and recycling services. We look forward to serving the Borough's residents for years to come and to improve the level of recycling services being provided."
The Borough's recyclables will be processed and marketed at Mascaro's modern "TotalRecycle" single stream automated recycling facility in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania. That facility is a leader in recycling services and is the first in the country under a sponsored pilot program to undertake the recycling of "flexible plastic packaging," which represents a significant portion of the household waste stream and which has not been successfully recycled in the past.
Company President Pat Mascaro said, "J. P. Mascaro & Sons has a long history of being awarded and successfully performing residential waste service contracts for Pennsylvania municipalities. We are currently performing more than 60 such contracts for municipalities, with the Borough of Quakertown being our most recent contract award. Our company welcomes the opportunity to serve the Borough."
