J. P. Mascaro & Sons, a local waste and recycling company, has been awarded a new three-year service contract to serve the Borough of Clarks Green, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. The contract is valued at $1,000,000. As part of the contract, Mascaro will provide both trash and recycling carts for once-a-week trash and recycling collection services for all households in the Borough, located just north of Scranton, Pennsylvania. This contract will start on April 1, 2024. Mascaro will add as acceptable recyclable materials “flexible plastic packaging” or FPP recyclables curbside for the Borough. FPP, which includes plastic bags, wraps, pouches, product packaging, etc., represents a growing portion of the residential household waste stream. Historically, this material has not been successfully recycled and has had to be landfilled. However, Mascaro, with its state-of-the-art TotalRecycle, Inc. (Materials Recovery Facility), will begin to collect these materials from Borough households, which will allow these materials to be recycled for reuse rather than landfilled. Mascaro will be mailing each one of those households a notice with information regarding this new FPP material that will be collected as recyclable material.

Mascaro previously serviced the Borough a few years ago. The contract will be serviced by Mascaro’s Wyoming Valley Facility located in nearby Nanticoke, Luzerne County.
