46 years ago, in 1980, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued a Facility Permit for the Mascaro Waste Transfer Station in Franconia Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
“That marked the start of a whole new era for J. P. Mascaro & Sons,” said company President Pat Mascaro. “The approval and permitting of the Mascaro Transfer Station — one of the first facilities of its kind in the region — launched the company on its path from a small local operation to one of the largest and most successful waste service providers in the industry,” he added.
More than three decades after its opening, the Mascaro Transfer Station received its fourth Permit Renewal from DEP for its Franconia Township facility on April 25, 2026. The Permit Renewal is for 10 years. At one time, this transfer station was Mascaro’s only DEP-permitted solid waste facility. But now, today it has been joined by numerous other Mascaro-affiliated solid waste facilities, including the Great Valley Recycling Transfer Station in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, the Lehigh Valley Recycling Transfer Station in North Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania, the Pioneer Crossing Landfill in Exeter Township, Pennsylvania, the White Pines Landfill in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, the A&M Composting Facility in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and, TotalRecycle single stream recycling facility in Exeter Township, Pennsylvania, one of the largest and most technically sophisticated recycling facilities in the state.
“These permitted solid waste facilities allow J. P. Mascaro & Sons to deliver the most efficient, economical, and environmentally responsible waste services possible to our customers,” said Mascaro. “They also provide the essential foundation our company needs to continue growing and expanding our business well into the future.”
The Mascaro Transfer Station is permitted for 800 tons per day, 100 tons of which can be single-stream recyclables; it handles municipal waste and certain approved residual waste; and the facility operates six days per week. Also housed at the transfer station location is a Mascaro waste collection operating division, which employs numerous drivers, mechanics, customer service and support personnel, and which serves many of Mascaro’s commercial and industrial customers.
