Local waste service company J. P.
Mascaro & Sons, through its new TotalRecycle single stream recycling
facility in Berks County, Pennsylvania, is processing and marketing recyclables
from some of Pennsylvania’s largest municipalities.
Mascaro’s
TotalRecycle facility processes and markets recyclables (1) from the City of
Allentown, Pennsylvania’s third largest city, which has an award winning
curbside recycling program; (2) from a consortium of seven large Montgomery
County municipalities, including Abington, Springfield, Cheltenham, Plymouth,
Upper Dublin and Upper Moreland Townships, and the Borough of Hatboro; and (3)
from Lower Merion Township, one of the largest municipalities in the state.
Using
the most advanced automated sorting equipment available for recyclables,
Mascaro’s modern 85,000 sq. ft. TotalRecycle facility processed and marketed
more than 160 million pounds of recyclables in 2017, and it expects to process and market
more than 200 million pounds of recyclables in 2018.
Mascaro
Director of Sustainability, Joseph P. Mascaro, who manages the TotalRecycle
facility, is optimistic that the company will continue to be at the forefront
of material recycling and reuse. Mascaro
stated, “We are continually learning about recovering materials, increasing
quality control, and improving the marketing of recycled materials. Our company is committed to applying its
resources to recycling and sustainability efforts and to facilities, equipment
and systems that enhance and improve those efforts.”
