Birdsboro residents have been without a local supermarket for several years now. That is
about to end, thanks to the public-private joint cooperative efforts of Birdsboro elected officials
and local waste company J. P. Mascaro & Sons.
It’s to be called “The Shops at St. Mark’s Square;” it’s a Birdsboro Town Center Project
by M.B. Investments, a J. P. Mascaro & Sons entity; it will contain a much-needed 25,000 square
foot modern supermarket operated by Boyer’s Food Market, Inc.; and it is scheduled to open in
November 2014.
Working with Mascaro to bring a modern supermarket back into Birdsboro, the Borough
Council expedited and recently approved “The Shops at St. Mark’s Square.” This Town Center
Project, to be constructed on five acres of land that Mascaro recently purchased from St. Mark’s Church, will contain 35,000 square feet of retail space, 25,000 of which will be occupied by the
Boyer’s Supermarket, and 10,000 of which is available for other stores or businesses.
Speaking to the project, Borough Councilman Steve Lusky said, “Birdsboro residents
really need their own local supermarket and we are grateful to Mascaro for making it happen.”
Mascaro company President, Pat Mascaro, added, “Birdsboro officials have been
instrumental in making this Town Center Project possible. It has been a real community
partnership and we are happy to be a part of it.”
Besides bringing a supermarket back to the Borough, the Town Center Project will bring
with it scores of job opportunities. Project construction will start immediately and should be
complete by Thanksgiving. Boyer’s Market, a well-known local company with years of
supermarket experience, has negotiated a 20-year lease with Mascaro, assuring that the
supermarket will be serving Birdsboro residents for years to come.
