The skies above Forman Road in Franconia Township come alive during the spring and summer months. If you stop by on any given day, you are likely to see aircraft of all kinds flying overhead. The planes are owned and controlled by radio control enthusiasts who belong to Keystone Radio Control Club - KRC.
The club was formed in 1965. Over the following years, the club flew from a number of different sites. In 1994 they were welcomed to their current site – an open tract of land, ideal for model aircraft, donated by local solid waste and recycling company, J. P. Mascaro & Sons.
There are currently about 70 club members. There are teens, seniors, and all ages in between. Model aircraft of many kind can be seen, including free-flight rubber powered planes, RC trainers, scale warbirds, sport planes, small jets and helicopters.
On behalf of the club, KRC President Joe Kraynak visited Mr. Pat Mascaro at his corporate headquarters. Joe told him that, “This location is just perfect for our members, and we are so thankful for the generosity that you have shown us. We take the responsibility of maintaining the field in a way that hopefully you, and the community, will consider it an asset. We strive to be good neighbors, and we welcome any community members who want to simply enjoy watching or participate in our training program. Our number one priority is safety – for our members and the community”. "Their operation is first class in every aspect", said property owner, Pat Mascaro.
Mr. Mascaro has praised the club on numerous occasions for the meticulous care the club gives the property.
The site is approximately 10 acres. There is a 700’ state of the art fabric main runway, and a shorter second runway for smaller aircraft. There is a covered, protected pavilion airway, ample parking, and portable restroom facilities.
