J.P. MASCARO & SONS CELEBRATES EARTH DAY EVERY DAY

Since 1970, America has recognized April 22nd as Earth Day, a day established to motivate the public to take the necessary steps to protect our environment. Now observed globally, Earth Day is an annual event held to demonstrate support for the natural world. A local, family-owned business takes that pledge seriously.

J.P. Mascaro & Sons has dedicated $30 million over the next three years to better the environment. In January, Mascaro opened its doors to TotalRecycle, a 75,000 square foot, single-stream recycling facility, situated on a 14 acre site in Berk’s County. This world-class operation contains cutting edge-technology that allows for the precise sorting and processing of all recyclable materials. This advanced technology ensures more valuable materials are recovered and securely processed and makes recycling simple for the public.

TotalRecycle works with businesses, waste haulers, municipalities and individuals to meet their recycling needs. It is capable of processing over 700 tons of recyclables a day or almost 20,000 ton a month and is approved to run 20 hours a day, six days a week. Additionally, TotalRecycle plans to be the solution to current problematic waste, such as electronic waste, batteries, light bulbs, etc. and will handle the important recycling processing of shredding and scrap. The facility is the only operation of this magnitude in the area and was built to optimize environmental performance.

“A recycling center of this significance reflects our steadfast commitment to a greener and safer environment. As a leading solid waste organization since 1964, we take our responsibility to the public and our ecosystem seriously. Not just on Earth Day but every day,” Mascaro president, Pasquale Mascaro, Sr., proclaimed.

TotalRecycle will play an essential role in the successful and expanded recycling efforts throughout Pennsylvania and its neighboring states. Its world-class infrastructure will lead to the reduction of carbon footprint and the increase of sustainability in these areas, as well as support local jobs.

“We felt this investment was essential to our continued goal to make waste a resource and we are immensely proud of TotalRecycle and the ecological advantages it brings to our area,” TotalRecycle director, J.P. Mascaro, Sr., stated, “We are working diligently to create an environment that I will be comfortable with my children’s great-grandchildren playing in.”

Customers have the ability to observe this devotion first-hand. The operation is designed for the public to witness recyclables being processed from either the cat-walk or the state-of-the-art camera and security systems. There is also an education center and tours available for school children and other organizations.

“We invite the public to visit TotalRecycle and see that Earth Day is more than just a single day; it’s a reminder of the steps we all need to take to make our environment prosper,” J.P. Mascaro, Sr. encouraged, “My grandfather started this company over 50 years ago as a scrap man, with protecting our surroundings in his fore-sight. We are getting back to our roots.”

J.P. Mascaro & Sons is a premier family-owned and operated solid waste company headquartered in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Mascaro possesses a strategic infrastructure of recycling, transfer and disposal facilities in the region and is one of the largest privately owned waste companies in the country.
