Local waste service company, J. P. Mascaro & Sons, was the host of Norristown’s Columbus Day Celebration. The event was held on Monday, October 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Borough’s beautiful Christopher Columbus Commemorative Monument in the Elmwood Park at Harding Boulevard and Sterigere Street. This years keynote speaker for the event was Lou Alba, Co-owner of Lou’s Steak Shop, Norristown.
Also, for event attendees, Mascaro hosted more than 150 people with a Luncheon immediately following the ceremony at its Corporate Headquarters building at 2650 Audubon Road, Audubon, Pennsylvania, in Lower Providence Township.
Largely through the efforts of Norristown’s Ambassador, Hank Cisco, and the “Hello Columbus Monument Committee” he headed, the Christopher Columbus Monument was constructed 38 years ago to commemorate Columbus’s discovery of America on October 12, 1492. Every year since, a Columbus Day Celebration has been held at the Monument. The Monument has been upgraded over the years and last year a commemorative plaque was added to the site honoring Ambassador’s Cisco’s efforts.
The Columbus Day event is always entertaining and uplifting and this year will be no different, and the authentic Italian food at Mascaro’s post-event Luncheon will top off an enjoyable celebration.
